Paula G. Schriefer

The Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning announced today that it has hired Paula G. Schriefer as Executive Director/CEO effective October 20, 2014. Paula will take the reins from Myrna Ann Adkins who headed the organization for the past 30 years.

Schriefer’s current position is United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, where she develops U.S. policies in coordination with other government agencies and advances those policies in the United Nations and other multinational organizations. Previously, she served as Vice President for Global Programs for Freedom House in Washington, DC. Paula received her BA, summa cum laude, from the University of Denver in Russian and East European Studies, followed by graduate work at George Washington University. She speaks Russian, German and French.
“Paula is a seasoned leader with extensive international and cross-cultural experience,” said Bart Alexander, chair of the Spring Institute. “We expect her to grow Spring Institute’s commitments to quality services, respect of all people and bridging of language and culture.”
Myrna Ann Adkins announced late last year her intent to transition from organizational leadership to other, significant work in intercultural engagement. She will be assisting Spring Institute through the end of 2014 to fulfill program commitments and ensure a smooth change in leadership. Paula Schriefer commented, “I have the utmost admiration for the values, programs and relationships that Myrna Ann brought to Spring Institute and the people that it serves.” She added, “I see great potential to both focus and expand the work of Spring Institute as we tailor our services and delivery methods to today’s challenging environment.”
